Later at a pet shop, he discovers a hypnotic creature called a Chanela and loses all interest in anything else. Serena wants her family to accept Luna as a "pet", but her little brother Sammy is afraid of cats. However, the program is one of Jedite's traps to steal energy. After talking with Molly and her friends, she decides to try a new fitness program that everyone is talking about. When Luna becomes suspicious of the station, she makes Serena go and investigate.Īfter weighing herself, Serena thinks she's gaining weight. Jedite continues his quest to collect energy for the Negaverse by using a late night radio talk show to attract women. He plants one of his youma in a fortune-telling shop, where it hypnotizes Serena's classmates and Melvin becomes captivated with the impression of evil energy. The evil Queen Beryl sends her servant Jedite out to collect human energy. "Punish Them! The House of Fortune is the Monster Mansion" Serena must now fight evil as Queen Beryl and the evil Negaverse have begun their attack on Earth. As the Scouts battle for the fate of the world, they learn about a previous life where they had all lived together in a kingdom on the Moon.Ī clumsy high school girl named Serena Tsukino encounters a talking cat named Luna who tells her she is the Soldier of Love and Justice, Sailor Moon. Its plot line involves the awakening of the Sailor Scouts-teenage super heroines-and their fight against the Negaverse and its leader, Queen Beryl. This arc introduces most of the major protagonists: Sere a Tsukino, Darien Chiba, Amy Mizuno, Raye Hino, Lita Kino, and Mina Aino. These changes were met with great controversy amongst Sailor Moon purists. Each episode concluded with an educational segment, "Sailor Says," in order to teach a moral based on the story that had just been shown. Many of the remaining episodes were heavily edited, making such changes as renaming place names to sound American, editing Japanese text off buildings and replacing it with English text, mirror-imaging frames that involved traffic, and cutting minor things such as slaps or drink-spitting. Five episodes were omitted from the English dub for inappropriate content and two were forged into one, which makes a total of forty episodes. The first season episodes were among those released in North America by DIC Entertainment, with an English dub produced by them and Optimum Productions.

It follows the manga story closely, and although neither series was expected to continue after its initial story arc, both were very successful and their runs were extended. The first season was produced concurrently with the first story arc (Dark Kingdom) of the manga by Naoko Takeuchi.
